Sixteen ✦ Female ✦ Unemployed ✦ Shifter ✦ High Schooler
personality
Eshima is a sweet girl, incredibly kind hearted and just loves to make others feel good about themselves no matter who they are. She is often very charming in both looks and attitude toward others, making her difficult to dislike. When it comes to those she befriends, she can be very loyal and protective, hating the idea of someone else getting hurt. Eshima is also incredibly honest, not to the point of being blunt or rude, but she will tell the truth in the nicest way possible if needed, but is hardly ever caught lying. However, despite this, she is very shy and extrememely introverted, preferring to keep to herself when she can, perhaps reading a book or listening to music. She often comes across as very lonely and self-deprecating, which can make her hard to stay around once you get to know her and see past her little mask of friendly happiness. She is also quite jumpy, easily startled in most situations, though quick to calm down if the other comes off as friendly. When speaking about herself, especially things people deem as good about her, she can be quite sarcastic and touchy. She is also quite innocent, however not naive even if she seems as such. It is rare for her to speak up for herself, but for one she cares about she won't hesitate, which can seem surprising. At times Eshima can be a little too generous and people seem to love using that to their advantage. history
Possible Trigger Warnings: Abused and Orphan/Adopted
Eshima was originally born to a young couple, and completely by accident. Upon discovering the pregnancy, and that he was to be a father, the mother's boyfriend left her and soon found a new girlfriend. Eshima's mother truly wanted to keep the baby once it was born, but her parents, seeing her unfit to be a parent - especially on her own - had the baby put up for adoption and told their daughter that the child was dead. It had been a home birth, so Eshima's mother knew no better. Eshima was put into the system, and soon enough was adopted by a seemingly loving family.
By all appearances this new family was a perfect fit. They already had a four year old daughter, and decided to tell Eshima she was adopted when she was old enough to understand. They weren't too put off by what she was, seeing as they too were not human. The mother of the family was a caring, devoted woman who held the family together, she loved the young shifter, even though she still clearly favoured her own daughter.
As she got older, Eshima was enrolled in school, and while not as perfect as her older sister seemed, she did her best. However, she was often picked on for her looks, and after the teacher tried to gain her sympathy by point out she was adopted, it only worsened the teasing. At home, her sister wasn't much different. Now that Eshima knew she wasn't related by blood, her sister would gladly rub it in, teasing her and telling her she didn't belong. She never laid a hand on her, she picked on her because she was jealous that her own mother seemed to love and pity the little shifter, not because she actually disliked the youngster. However, despite the teasing and bullying, Eshima would suck it up and act as happy as she could whenever other people saw her.
Everything turned bad when the mother of the family fell ill. Her own daughter was always away at her expensive boarding school, so Eshima took it upon herself to do everything her mother asked of her, staying by her bedside whenever she had a spare moment of time. In this time the two grew close, and the mother would always ask to see Eshima. However, as her and her mother grew closer, the minimal bond between Eshima and her adoptive father seemed to evaporate completely. He'd turned to drinking by now, and was wasting every little bit of money he had on that and his other habits. He would insult the child, telling her she was useless and a waste of space, that she ought never have been born, let alone adopted by them. This of course lowered Eshima's self confidence to bare minimum, often earning tears. Yet at school and in public, or around her mother, she'd still wear her little mask and pretend everything was fine.
With the family unable to afford medicine or treatment, the mother died. Through their grief, the girls seemed to draw a little closer in their shared memories of their mother, especially thanks to how much more Eshima could remember. Yet still, Eshima's sister remained at her boarding schools, now forking out her own money to stay there. Meanwhile, back at home, the father's drunken grief was turned upon Eshima, especially since her sister wasn't there. Eshima would take the blame for every little thing, protecting her sister despite how terrible she'd been to her when they were younger.
The girls grew closer still, especially when Eshima's sister discovered what was going on, and saw all the cuts and bruises marring her adopted sibling's skin. They agreed that should Eshima ever be taken off their father, she would go live with her sister once she was old enough to legally care for her. This, of course, did happen, as a neighbour eventually became more and more aware of the abuse of Eshima, and reported it. Eshima was put into the system once again, and after a few months found herself living with her sister. Of course they'd bicker sometimes, yet they were a lot closer now.
After a while of searching, both sisters decided it was time to move away, especially in order to keep out of reach of their drunken, abusive father. Upon discovering they'd moved, he began trying to contact the girls whatever way he could, pleading he was fine now, and promised to take better care of Eshima. That they could be a happy family again. He discovered their new address, and after it being proven everything he said was merely lies, the girl's were prompted to move even further away and drop all contact with him. In their new home, a place where so many were different like them, Eshima's sister enrolled her in Kala Academy in the hopes they could both start anew with their lives.
