It was always good to have a short school day. Not so good considering something had happened in the science department but she would take it. The dog demon was hoping no one got hurt. She had no idea of what happened to make something explode. That could get just about anything since it happened in the chemistry lab. The bad thing about it being a short day they never got the chance to have their lunch break. She was starving since she didn't eat a lot of breakfast this morning. Walking back into town she heard her belly rumbling softly and with a sigh she shook her head. She had some reading she could do as well once she got to the cafe. She was a work-a-lolic when it came to her school work. But it also kept her mind off her hunger as well. Because she was one of those irritable when angry types so she didn't want to start being that way especially when she had to start talking to people.
Seeing cafe life coming up into her vision she smiled and picked up her pace. She wasn't too sure what she wanted to eat but she'd figure it out when she got there. But she needed some coffee since she was a little tired since she had stayed up most of the night studying for a test she never had today. That had to be the worst part of the day. When she got to the cafe she stood outside and caught her breath for a moment. Brushing off her skirt she exhaled softly walking right into the cafe. Pushing some of her long black hair from her face. Flipping it over her shoulder. Exposing the sky blue and white striped tank top she was wearing which was a little low cut on her. Showing off her breasts a bit which if her father saw her out in public like this he'd probably get upset. Being a daddy's girl of course any boys who looked at her wrong got the death glare. Thinking about it caused her to giggle softly.
Trying to decide on what she wanted for lunch she she then thought about it for a minute and then smiled more. Looking through her bag she came to discover her wallet was gone. Gasping quick thinking about it she remembered it was sitting on her nightstand since she had been in a hurry this morning. She walked off without it. Growling at herself hearing her belly rumble again she soon whined. "Nice going idiot...now you get to skip lunch..." shaking her head Claire knew she had a ways to go before heading home so she just decided to do her reading before she left. She already made the trip. Just finding a table she sat down. Taking out her book she soon let her bag sit by her feet. Trying her best to keep her mind off her hunger. Resting her head in one hand she opened her book and started skimming through it. Like her best couldn't get any better right now.
Kaito is a flirtatious merfolk shifter that enjoys the company of others. He's a social butterfly and is unafraid to strike up a conversation with some random person. His goal in life is to become a licenced psychiatrist and work to improve people's mental health.
So today wasn't the usual hustle and bustle that Kaito was used to during his day shifts. Normally, around this time anyways, the place was flooded with people. There was a lack of voices that usually accompanied the loud scream of their steamer. For now the only noise was the brewing coffee, shuffling feet, and soft coffee house music that they always played. He could count the number of customers sitting down with a cup on his one hand, it was definitely a little dead right now.
Kaito stood behind the counter, a rag in one hand and a wet mug in the other. He was hand drying each mug while his eyes wandered the building. There was something peaceful about the cafè's current state. He hummed along to the jazz music that played in the background, his head tilting from one side to the other as if his mind was dancing to the beat.
He sighed softly before placing the now dry mug on a tray with all the other coffee mugs. He swung the towel over his shoulder before picking up the tray and carefully walking to the rack holder and placing all the dried mugs in their designated place. It was a boring process considering how robotic the movements were. It was a repetitive procedure, often causing Kaito to daydream about what he was going to eat for supper. He wasn't the best cook but he could make a mean spicy noodle bowl. Lord knows he could always go for some sort of spicy dish. He grinned just at the thought of it, his mouth watering in the slightest.
Once finished with the mugs he went to the back and put the tray back near the dishwasher and threw the towel up on a hook to dry. While in the back he heard the bell go off from the front, alarming the employees that there was a customer. On instinct, while walking back to the front where the register and food display was, he greeted the customer. "Welcome!" his voice rang with enthusiasm as he smiled politely to the woman that waltzed in.
Oh boy... She sure was cute.
Kaito cocked his head slightly to the right, his eyes slowly grazing over her. She had the most beautiful jet-black hair. Nothing however, compared to the beauty that was her face. Her eyes had this shape to them that seemed so endearing, yet innocent at the same time. Kaito admired her figure silently as he then noticed how revealing her shirt was. His eyes widened slightly before he forced his gaze back to where her own was. He was always quite observant but noticing something like that made him feel guilty. He was no pervert! He had the decency to respect a woman and know where the boundaries were.
Just as he waited for her to make her order, he noticed how she stiffened slightly after searching through her bag. He heard faint mumbling, something about being an 'idiot' and not getting to eat lunch. Kaito watched as the woman wandered over to a table and began to read out of a book. He put A and B together and figured she had left her money somewhere other than in her possession. The man frowned, feeling the disappointed aura that the woman gave off. He scratched at his forearm before waltzing over to the woman's table. He had to be a gentleman to a maiden in distress!
He hovered on the other side of her, bowing his head with a suave smirk on his face. "Excuse me miss, I couldn't help but notice your distraught expression. A beautiful lady like yourself shouldn't have such an unhappy countenance, but instead a lovely smile." His words were smooth like butter, he could feel himself melting! "Would you tell me what you would like from our selection? I'll be sure you are treated well." His mouth didn't waver from the smirk as he spoke in a soothing tone. Of course he wouldn't mind paying for the lady's meal, he was more than happy to have an excuse to even talk to her. Kaito was quite persistent, and he was sure that she would try to reject his offer but he wouldn't allow her. Worst case scenario... She thought he was a complete creep and would get up and leave.

THESE WORDS ARE MY OWN THEY'RE FROM MY HEART FLOW
She really had to do this to herself? She had to learn when to stop herself and go to bed at night so these things wouldn't happen. She almost felt like she couldn't take care of herself on her own. But she didn't need to always keep depending on her parents or someone to be around. She couldn't depend on her boyfriend like this once she finally got the chance to meet someone and have a social or love life. Yea right, who was she fooling? Yes she knew she was nice to look at but as far as she was concerned Claire thought that was it. Thinking of herself as too dependent and somewhat clingy. Shaking her had she growled at herself. Was she going to think like this because she was angry at herself? She did have to sit here and go hungry because of her own stupid move. Trying to keep her mind straight she kept her onyx orbs trailing along in her book. Her hair falling into her face a little bit as she kept her head down. She was kind of glad that red head behind the counter didn't come up to greet her. She'd had to admit to her own blunder and only get crazy looks she was sure.
Just thinking about it made her groan to herself. Shaking her head again she finally shut her book. This wasn't going to work. She was starving and sitting here being surrounded by the scent of food really didn't help. She was a dog and with heightened senses everything smelt far better then it would to most. With her stomach practically roaring she had to get out of here. This was embarrassing as she noticed those around her starting to stare. Biting her lip with a whine she was about to grab her bag when she noticed the red head approached her. Causing her to gasp loudly she gulped silently. His words, it almost reminded her of her father. That suave, sincere speech. The charm to his voice, it about had her melting at his feet. Seeing him up this close Claire couldn't help but find him rather handsome. With a flush of light color spreading across her cheeks she took a small breath. "O-oh well...i-it's ok...it was kind of my own fault...its what I get for being in a rush this morning after nearly staying up all night..." Lowering her head she felt like such a damn fool. Sighing under her breath she shut her eyes for a moment to relax and collect her thoughts.
It was what he said next that shocked her a little bit. She knew this was going to happen. Making her feel even worse. Looking up at him she shook her head a bit. "It sounds wonderful but...it really doesn't matter...I can't partake because I forgot my wallet at home..." she said sounding rather embarrassed. Claire had thought maybe sticking around was a bad idea. She almost wanted to hide. She thought the man was being sweet to her but he was also doing his job so she really wasn't too sure what it was. The dog demon really wanted to think this man would be her knight in shining armor for this moment and help her out and let her eat. But she wasn't too sure if that was going to happen. This wasn't a movie with some beautiful stranger offering to buy her lunch. As nice as it seemed in her head. Shaking her head of her own ridiculus thoughts she let her eyes trail back up to the head red. Noticing that smirk never left his face. It was almost like he was very determined about this.

Such a sweet tone escaped her lips. "Don't blame yourself love, I understand how it feels to be forgetful." He said with sincerity. Of course he could relate, he was guilty for constantly forgetting his own wallet that he eventually put a permanent note on his door that said; Remember wallet! It was quite the odd reminder. "Of course, even if you do forget something so important, you shouldn't be putting yourself down with such negative language." He raised his brows to express a softer look. "And you know, staying up late isn't good for your health, I wouldn't want you to have to experience your day in exhaustion." He frowned, the tone in his voice was flooded with worry.
He noticed how submissive she was when she spoke. Her overall demeanour was unassertive. It looked as if having to talk with him pained her. It was more of a nervous pain than irritation as if she felt like she would say something wrong. Kaito felt a little guilty for putting her in such an uncomfortable situation, but he just couldn't help himself.
Suddenly the front door rang, alarming him of a customer. Kaito frowned as this meant he needed to cut their interaction short. "Please miss, if you have a preference for something on the menu I will be sure to hand deliver it to you. Anything you would like, I will provide myself." He bowed his head, reorganizing the smirk on his face. "Even if you deny my offer, I'll be expecting you to stay put as I come back with a surprise." Kaito cooed while folding his hands together over his lap. He wasn't going to let her leave without a proper meal. He could hear the grumbling from her belly, it was obvious that the woman was starving. Kaito was trying to be a gentleman and appease the customer, but he also felt like he would be able to get to know her better through the exchange they were having. She seemed unique from most of the people he has met. Usually he encounters people with outgoing and bubbly personalities. It was like getting a different taste of air with this woman. She was shy, even diffident it seemed. Kaito felt her aura calming, relaxing, and not so much hyperactive. It allowed him to speak freely with her, not having to keep up with the mind of someone so excitable.
"I promise it will be delicious regardless of which option you favour" Of course it would be delectable! This cafe had the best to offer when it came to scrumptious cuisine. The best however, would definitely have to be his own hand brewed espressos. It was a customer favourite when he was on shift. "So what will it be?"
She felt like such a child. Almost like she was being scolded about everything. But in the end maybe she deserved it. She had to stop doing stuff like this its how she got herself caught in situations like this. Rubbing the back of her head a little Claire soon gently ran her fingers through her long black hair. "It's just...normally that's one of the last things I forget...I guess I was in a really big hurry this morning..." she said softly as she let her gaze go down to the table. Blushing a bit brighter when he spoke more she bit and nibbled on her lower lip a little bit. Sounded like something her parents would say but someone had to say it too her. She was a stubborn little dog. "I just feel so stupid...and I know I shouldn't but...I guess I don't know when to quit. Until my body just gives out and I pass out." What surprised her however was that tone of his. Worried, that was new. But she couldn't help but to like it. Seeing someone outside of her family worried about her made her a little happy.
When she suddenly heard the bell for the door go off again she looked back up at the red head. Knowing he had to take care of them too. Listening to him speak again he sure seemed to determined to get her to actually have something to eat. Which only made her even happier. Giggling softly under her breath Claire actually let a small smile finally spread across her lips. Being a little too excited her black dog ears and matching fluffy tail suddenly appeared. Her tail wagging rather quickly from becoming happy about all of this. Her onyx eyes lighting up Claire was rather thankful this man for being so nice to her. "I really don't want you to get into trouble doing this but...thank you so much, no one has ever been so nice to me." She said softly but sincerely. Her smile getting bigger as she tried to get the irritation out of her. She didn't really have the energy to make a fuss since she was so hungry. Plus she was tired of listening to her belly which was still letting itself be known that it was empty and demanding to be fed.
Maybe this day could turn around for the better. It wasn't everyday she got to have a handsome man wait on her like this. Even if truly she didn't deserve it since she wasn't actually going to be paying for her meal herself. "I really had no idea what I had wanted so tell you what. Surprise me and maybe if you have time you can have lunch with me? Have you had a break today?" she said in a soft, but friendly and warm tone. Giggling a bit louder as he onyx eyes stayed on him. Only to suddenly think about something, making her gasp softly. "Oh! And my name is Claire, might I know the name of the lovely man who saved me for starving today?" She said making her smile a bit bigger. She still felt a little embarrassed about this but she was getting better. Maybe once she did finally get the chance to eat it would be a little better. But what would make the experience even better is if she got the cute red head to possibly come and have lunch with her. He seemed like a sweet heart and quite the gentleman. So she wanted to explore a little bit farther.
Kaito is a flirtatious merfolk shifter that enjoys the company of others. He's a social butterfly and is unafraid to strike up a conversation with some random person. His goal in life is to become a licenced psychiatrist and work to improve people's mental health.
He was shocked to hear her speak so lowly of herself. Sure she didn't look that confident at first, but he didn't peg her to be so self-deprecating. "That should never be an option." He replied quietly. Of course now it was just him being worried for her health. She obviously didn't seem too concerned about it herself. With all this talk he realized how parental he sounded. Kaito mentally scowled at himself, it felt weird to act like such a 'dad'. Anyone else in the store may think they have known each other for awhile, with the way he was speaking to her. Regardless, the poor girl needed a meal.
When she expressed her own worry about how he could get in trouble, he just chuckled, brushing it off. Of course it would be no problem, he'd just take the money out of his next paycheck. It wouldn't be a big deal anyways, he had a lot of leftover money to spare. But wait... What... WHAT WAS STICKING OUT OF HER HEAD? Kaito was baffled, he leant back in astonishment at the two black ears that peeked out from her head. W-Was this what his mother had told him about with those stories? It was fascinating to see the real deal in person. He had never seen any of the other creatures that were mentioned in her stories. This was his first time experiencing something that wasn't like himself, or human. Kaito's eyes widened, he wanted to just explode in excitement. But he was on the job, he needed to act professional and contain himself. For now, he'd have to reluctantly act natural as if he saw this sort of thing every day.
Kaito was glad he'd be able to put his creativity to the test. Putting together a surprise meal based off their menu would be an exciting task. What he wasn't expecting was to get asked to eat with her. He raised his brows, a little perplexed with her offer. He didn't have a break yet, that was fact. His shift ended soon but he never used the break that he was suppose to get while on. Kaito nodded while his eyes looked to the roof as he was thinking."I don't see why not. I'd love to accompany a lady while she enjoys her meal." He winked to the woman. No one had asked for his company before, usually he would have to be the one to ask. This was a nice change, he felt happier to know someone wanted to be in his presence.
Her giggle was so cute. Kaito just loved the sound of a girl laughing because it boosted his own ego. The appeal was stronger since it came from such a beautiful woman. "Kaito." He knelt down on one knee, took Claire's hand and kissed the back of it before standing up. "I will return" Kaito smirked before turning on his heel towards the front desk.
Kaito took note of the order the customer wanted at the front before reaching into the glass case near the cashier. He pulled out a sandwich and chocolate chip cookie, placed them into paper bags before handing them over to the man. "Have a good day, sir." Kaito bowed with a smile on his face. The man thanked him before leaving the cafè Next it was time to get Claire a little meal. He went into the back and put together the dish, sticking a toothpick in the middle. Kaito grinned before nabbing a treat from the glass case up front and put the dish on the back counter while he began to make his special espresso. He then grabbed a cheese croissant from the glass case and put it on a plate for himself.
Kaito picked up the two plates in his left hand, his other hand carried the mug with her espresso. He waltzed back over to the woman's seat and placed the plate down in front of her, followed by the drink. "A chicken caesar wrap with cactus cuts and a hazelnut espresso for the lady." Kaito smirked while placing his croissant on the other side. He slowly took the seat across from her and smiled delightfully. "I hope you enjoy it." He maintained a smile while looking into her eyes, hoping to see her expression while she took her first bite.
Resting there where she had sat herself down at. Claire knew that if her parents or even her grandparents would would very upset with her. But she really couldn't help herself. She just wanted to make sure all of her work was done. What had really surprised her was that the man didn't say anything about her dog features appearing. She couldn't help herself. She had just gotten so excited about being able to actually eat. Not having to go home hungry it felt pretty good. Her black, fluffy tail still wagging behind her. This man was really being sweet, this really didn't happen everyday. Not like this anyway. Most of the time it was because they found her rather attractive. Knowing they really only wanted one thing. Something she certainly wasn't thinking about. Even though she was fifty years old. But it didn't matter to her. To the dog demon there were much better things. She had never even had a boyfriend before, let alone anything else.
In the end Claire was hoping that the cute red head would have lunch with her. Or at least keep her company while she ate. She did enjoy having people to talk to when she had the chance. Putting her book back into her bag she wanted her full attention to be on the man in front of her. She was enjoying the attention and would continue to enjoy it for as long as she could. Gasping happily hearing that he was going to join her her tail wagged even quicker. "I'm glad! My day is turning around already~" She said happily. She knew the man still had work to do but she didn't mind. Claire didn't mind waiting. She knew that work always had to come first. She'd be the same way if she had a job. Something she would have to think about eventually. She couldn't live off her parents forever since they were paying for most of her stuff now. They paid for her condo so what did that tell someone? Not being too worried about that right now since she didn't plan on telling anyone she just let it roll off of her shoulders.
Hearing the red head introduce himself she smiled to him. "It's nice to meet you Kaito" she said softly in a friendly tone. Gasping softly when she watched what he was doing. Seeing him take her hand when he knelt down like that her eyes widened slightly. Feeling his lips against the skin of her hand Claire found herself blushing ever so lightly. Feeling her heart beginning to pick up some speed. Admitting she really did enjoy this. When he walked away Claire ran her fingers through her black hair. Taking a few strands of hair into her hands, stroking her hair out of nervousness. Waiting for him to come back she looked out the window until she caught the scent of food and it was only getting closer. Seeing Kaito come back with her meal she couldn't help but lick her lips. She had been waiting for this. "Thank you so much Kaito, it looks amazing!" She said happily. Picking up the wrap gently, Claire took a bite. Chewing for a moment her onyx eyes lit right up. Her tail wagging a mile a minute. "This is sooo good! It's delicious!"
Kaito is a flirtatious merfolk shifter that enjoys the company of others. He's a social butterfly and is unafraid to strike up a conversation with some random person. His goal in life is to become a licenced psychiatrist and work to improve people's mental health.
Kaito observed her expression carefully. Her eyes brightened as she took the first bight, savouring the flavour as if it were the first meal she has had ever. Of course, with how hungry she was in the first place, it was only natural for her to express such elation. He couldn't help but chuckle, her excitement made him more confident. Lord knows he always appreciated a little boost to his ego every now and then. "I'm glad you like it darling." His smirk reappeared as he continued to watch her.
Now that the food issue was out of the way, Kaito decided it would be a perfect opportunity for him to address the elephant in the room that he wasn't used to. "So Claire," He started rather cautiously, hoping not to be disruptive during her meal. "Is it normal that you have ears and a tail come out whenever you're happy?" He finished, his voice a little awkward since this was quite a weird subject to address. "I think it's really adorable." Kaito's smirk turned into a blissful smile. He's only ever been familiar with shifters and merfolk. He has never really been face to face with another species outside his family. It was a fascinating experience for sure, but it brought on so many questions. He didn't want to come on too strong, so the red head maintained composure and tried to ask as coolly as possible. Especially with there being other customers in the cafè it would be very unprofessional of him to get too excited.
Kaito then began to poke at his croissant. He took little pinches of the pastry and stuck them in his mouth, slowly chewing them. This was his favourite snack to grab while on the job. It was quick and tasteful, the cheese being the best part. It was while he was chewing that the bell rang and one of his coworkers walked through the doors. It was the girl that was suppose to take his shift once he was done. Kaito waved to her from his seat, she reciprocated the action and went to the back room. Usually they would work together for a bit before Kaito got off, just because it was a smoother transition.
"I only ask because I'm not very familiar with all the other species roaming around other than myself." He spoke truthfully. This would be very beneficial towards his career as well. A better understanding of other species would allow him to cater to their problems more appropriately when they came for help. Of course he performed studies on these specie differences but meeting one face to face would allow him to come to a personal conclusion.
As she sat there enjoying the meal that Kaito had brought her Claire felt better already. She felt her mood quickly changing. Her black, fluffy tail was wagging quickly behind her. The only thing she was hoping was that she didn't get him into trouble for this. Licking her lips she took one of the napkins and gently wiped her mouth. She knew when to be a lady, she wasn't about to make herself look like a slob. It definitely felt better to eat now finally since her day was going a lot better then it was about twenty minutes ago. "I really do, it's so good!" She said happily. She thought if this guy had a lover they were rather lucky. Sighing under her breath at the thought Claire was pretty sure that wasn't what she should be thinking about. Maybe it was because she was a little lonely. Shrugging lightly she brushed it off. She didn't want to come off that way so she was just going to enjoy her meal and her company from the cute red head. Her onyx eyes wandering back to Kaito every now and then. She couldn't help but keep stealing glimpses of him every now and then.
When she finished taking another bite she looked up quick when Kaito said her face. Tilting her head a bit wondering what he wanted to say. Hearing him ask about her canine features she started blushing a bit again. Giggling softly she rubbed the back of her head a bit. "Y-yes...I'm a dog demon, I got it from my father. So I have a dog form as well as features in human form. I can make them appear at will. But it happens on their own when I'm really happy or excited." She replied to him to answer his question. Then hearing Kaito call it adorable she found herself giggling a bit more. "Thank you, your sweet" she said softly. Taking another bite of her food. Humming with delight as she wiped her mouth a bit more. This really was good. She'd have to come back for lunch more often. Hoping next time she would remember her wallet. Seeing that smile on the red head's face Claire only smiled more. It really was cute and made him look rather handsome when he smiled at her like that. It nearly made her melt.
Watching as Kaito started eating too Claire was about half way done with her food. Sighing with content as she sat here. She really was enjoying her time with Kaito. She was just really hoping that she wasn't going to be a bore to him or something like that. Shaking that thought from her head she decided to not think about that. But hearing him mention species again she tilted her head. "What are you? If you don't mind my asking?" She asked softly, hoping Kaito wasn't going to get angry with her or anything for asking. Knowing it was probably a rather personal question. Looking back down at her food she decided to go back to eating. She really wanted to get to know Kaito. She was having a really nice time with him and wanted to know more. It's too bad they weren't on a actual date. But she was sure he'd have to go back to work soon. Trying not to think about it Claire was just going to enjoy what time they still had left together.

"Of course I have to be sweet, a woman like yourself deserves nothing less." Kaito smiled, his gaze towards her softened
It was amazing to hear how her body worked as a species different than himself. So her dog features would only appear when she gets excited or at will. Not only as a human could she resemble a dog, but she could also morph into one entirely! Amazing! Dogs were incredibly adorable so he wasn't surprised to hear about her being one, considering how cute she was."That's neat but," he paused with hesitation, "Aren't demons supposed to be evil?" His tone seemed questionable. Maybe this was being too direct but he usually spoke before thinking.
His mother vaguely went over the demon species, not going into the whole "demons can also cross-breed with other species" thing. Sure he sort of assumed it could happen since he himself was a merfolk shifter but it was odd to really be in the presence of one. Especially such an odd combination. A demon dog.. So were they... Adorably evil? Or not evil at all? It all seemed so stereotypical of him to be thinking it. This would be a great learning experience.
When she asked him about his own kind, he was caught a little off guard. Normally when he talked to girls they just wanted to talk about themselves. This sort of dialectic change was appealing. Kaito grinned, his eyes tracing the outline of his plate nervously."Well. I guess you could say I'm a Merfolk Shifter." Kaito's crimson orbs slowly brought themselves to look at the girl. Most of the time when people thought of merfolk, they would imagine a beautiful mermaid, not a merman. Usually, he would get some sort of confused look after telling someone about his species. Kaito then began to take larger chunks of the croissant, knowing he would have to wrap it up soon before getting off shift. He would feel bad having to leave Claire though, she was a very kind girl and he enjoyed his time with her. Of course, maybe this wouldn't be their last encounter.
