✦ First off, what is your name and what creature are you?
“My name?” The demon asked as they leaned back in their chair and cracked their knuckles. They scratched their cheek before glancing back at the interviewer. “I go by many names; I think I change it every few decades or so. But if you want to know what I’m known these days, you can call me Alex De Roux. See what I did there? I am a demon, a full-blooded demon.” Seeing the interviewer blink in confusion, Alex furrowed their brow and huffed, "De Roux? It means red. You speak French? No? Ugh, never mind."

✦ A demon, wow. I heard your kind is immortal. How old are you and what do you do these days?
Age is something that does not bother them anymore; if only they could have a large enough score pad to fit all the years they have been living and breathing. Alex sighed out as they brushed off something off their sleeve. “I’m older than you, that’s for sure. I’m older than everyone. I have seen the birth of civilizations, the Egyptians, Aztecs, Greeks, Romans, I have seen it all. Do you think after living that long I still have the knack to keep count? Mon dieu…” They paused for a moment and added, “I am currently the Dean of Kinau College and the owner of Night Splash.”

✦ That’s nice. What were you doing before you came to this island?
The interviewer was met with an eerie silence from the demon. Alex may be old, but they can recall every detail that had happened to them for the past several millennia they have existed. They even recall how they were born in this world and they could only ‘poetically’ describe it as being born from the innermost desires of humankind. Whatever they meant with that, no one will really know for the demon had always been shady when it comes to their personal affairs. The demon had been making the most of their immortal life ever since they took their first breath. While their deeds had not always been good in the eyes of many, it kept them from withering away to die. They had contracted countless humans and even been ‘indirectly’ involved in their demise to abruptly cut their bond and claim their soul; Alex can be quite tricky at times and even until now, they still have that tendency to do it. However, this side of the demon is something they wish to keep under wraps, so they answered briefly, “It’s something you mortals don’t need to poke your business into.”

✦ Do you have a favorite place in mind? How about music?
A far off expression would be seen on the demon’s face as if they were trying to recall details. They have lived for so long, traveled around a lot that it was hard not to pick just one place. Asia, Europe, Africa, the Americas, Australia, they have been from one corner of the globe to the other. It took them a while before they managed to muster a response. “I guess I’ll have to pick a current favorite place because it is really hard to choose. Paris is a great place to be, n'est-ce pas?” It would be surprising for a demon to pick the city of love, but from the way Alex drops French words every now and then, perhaps they have grown to like the culture. The demon taps their chin a couple of times as they added, “Now for music, I enjoy pretty much ever genre as long as they don't hurt my ears. I have always enjoyed listening to a piano and violin duet.”

✦ Have you been romantically involved with someone before?
A loud guffaw would escape from the demon’s lips as they place a hand upon their cheek. The question itself seemed like a joke and the interviewer wondered if she said something funny. Was romance funny to the demon? It took about five minutes before Alex’s laughter gradually died down and they had to remove their glasses to easily wipe off the tears that brimmed in their eyes. They breathe out and calmed down, a smile still playing upon those lips as they answered, “Yes, but it didn’t last long. Actually, I have been romantically involved with countless men and women, but after some time, I decided it is pointless to create bonds that would eventually break anyway. Mortals are so fickle.”

✦ I see then. Can you describe your first sexual experience?
By now, the demon was smirking widely, their reaction entirely different from earlier as they bared their sharp white teeth. There was a huge difference between romance and sex, the latter being something Alex really enjoys. While they may abhor getting too close to someone, getting in the sheets was another matter. They have urges and a demon should act on it, no matter what. In the several thousands of years they have existed, they have sired several children, but they dared not keep track. Alex had impregnated several women and sired numerous children with them. Alex gets in bed with men, but still prefers the fairer gender. “I could show it to you better than I could tell you, chérie.” Alex said with a wink towards the interviewer as they reach out and gently brushed their hand on the woman’s leg.

✦ N-No, thank you. Moving on, what makes you laugh?
The demon withdrew their hand from the female’s leg before leaning back against the chair once more. This question sounded easy, but it had Alex thinking. They had always been a cheerful individual but it would take a slight effort to make this demon laugh. They soon cleared their throat and offered a kind smile towards the interviewer. “I guess there are some things that can make me laugh, but not always. So there’s a possibility that what I say may not be applicable the next time.”

✦ Do you believe in destiny? How about the red string of fate and soul mates?
Raising a hand to rub their chin, Alex gave this some thought. They had heard of this… concept before but the demon was rather divided on the subject. Everyone was destined for something through it would always be up to the person whether to make themselves great or not. “Destiny is something that isn’t fixed, in my opinion. It changes accordingly depending on the person’s choices.” Now, when it comes to soul mates and this red string of fate, they had heard of several instances of it being true, and of people cursing it. To the demon, romance may be a joke, but the concept of having someone who was truly destined to be your partner until the end was intriguing. They had seen a rare few couples who tied the knot and stayed together until their last breaths. Alex thought that they were just bearing with each other’s presence, but after seeing that their love for each other never faded after all those years, it made the demon think. It may be a possibility that it can never happen to them, that there was no one at the end of their red string, so they just became a spectator to this rare instance. While the temptation to break this precious bond was strong, its rarity was a form of entertainment actually for Alex. “Do you expect me, a non-believer in romance, to believe in such things? Please, I'd enjoy cutting that proverbial string if I could.” They lied, their tone convincing and unquestionable, however, the demon would die first before admitting this guilty little secret.

✦ Finally, describe yourself in ten words or less.
Ah, this interview was finally over. Maybe Alex can go back to their desk and punch the numbers on the college staff salaries. After that, they will probably time out early so they can meet with the new performers later at the Night Splash, see if these people can bring decent entertainment or not. With a wide grin, they responded with a simple line, “I am a bomb just waiting to blow up.” The demon chuckled and stood up. “I believe we’re done, non?” They shook the interviewer’s hand and smiled as they said a few parting words while brushing their thumb on the skin of the woman, “If ever you change your mind on that… thing, you know where to find me. Adieu, chérie.”


▪ Alex owns the bar Night Splash. They had it built near the college campus, just a five-minute drive away. It is a common hangout for college students and older adults alike who just want to have some good clean fun. It is known to be a starting point for aspiring musicians who want some exposure.
▪ Alex knows almost all the languages from several parts of the world. They even know how to speak some of the lost ancient languages for having existed for so long. Their current 'favorite' language is French.
▪ It is said that Alex’s real appearance is so terrifying that they outright refuse to show it to others, not wishing to ruin their image to other people.
▪ A striking feature of this demon is their sharp teeth, an indication of their race. They are obviously not shy about showing it when smiling.
▪ Whenever this demon makes a contract, they make a doll to represent the person.
▪ Alex has a rather creepy laugh.
