Ashamed of her non-human characteristics, Selene has lived a sheltered life as the adoptive daughter of a wealthy human family. Her mother, whom she adored deeply, ran her life like a puppeteer. She pushed her daughter into modeling because of the usagimimi's beauty. Eventually her family life fell apart once her father ran away with another woman. Her mother committed suicide afterwards. Selene lives mostly alone, in mourning, and trying to put herself and the family name back together.

She shifted in her spot, drawing her hands upwards on her arms to generate some warmth. It was a bit chilly out tonight, her breath almost materializing in the night air. Luckily the usagimimi had a small white cloak to keep her upper body warm, though it mainly helped her neck; she could feel Jack Frost nipping at her cheeks and knees. Selene's attire for her occasion was a dress -- a pale grey that formed into a bubble skirt above the knees. Her legs were covered in black tights, pink leg warmers, and boots. Layering around the legs was something she saw in a fashion magazine, so since it was cold and fashionable... why not? As embarrassing as it sounded, Selene wasn't normally the one to pick out her outfits when her family was together. Instead that went to her mother and maids who made sure her outfits were suited for the occasion and fashionable. She didn't get that right.
Since she was left alone now, her outfits were more simple she felt. But she opted to occasionally experiment with her clothing (i.e. use the Internet or magazine to replicate an outfit). She felt more grateful now when she'd get compliments towards her clothes because it was a compliment towards her choices now, not anybody else's.
The blonde stood there by the entrance of the restaurant, her amethyst orbs darted about anxiously. She had never been on a date before, this was a completely new experience. However the usagimimi figured if she were to change to become a more open and social person then you'd have to try new things correct? It... It wasn't like she'd have to fall in love with them anyways. Of course not! Oh... how she'd hope so. Merrick was their name and from that she couldn't tell much. It was such an ambiguous name.
Selene just hoped she could function well, without much stuttering or mess ups. She frowned at that thought. Mess ups. "... Maybe this is a mistake..." She murmured, her head hanging low like a discouraged puppy. She didn't know how to talk to people. She was better at faking it than being genuine. Give her a script and she'd memorize it within minutes. But actual conversation? The girl felt like she fell short of an actual conversation. She just got so nervous! Like now, Selene could feel her head spinning and things in her thoughts blurring.
Maybe this was a mistake. It really felt like it. But the cold of the night air kept her from reeling away from reality too much, the chill caressing her cheeks and poking at her pink nose. Her date was at night, at a nice restaurant. Nighttime didn't bother her much, rather she felt at ease seeing the moon. It was so pretty tonight. Merrick. Merrick. The more she thought of the name, the nicer it sounded. Merrick.

gotta stay high all my life to forget i'm missing you
Carrying a bouquet of white lilies, Merrick was on her way to the planned venue for her date. How did she end up in this arrangement? Apparently, one of her friends at the college thought it was a good idea to throw in the vampire’s name in the hat for a Valentine's day date. She had no clue what they had done until she suddenly received a pink envelope taped at her locker saying she was scheduled to meet someone on a blind date. The others were giddy like they were school girls when they saw it, but the woman can only twitch her eye as she looked at the perfumed invitation. Whoever thought of this idea will have their hides skinned tomorrow by the architect herself.
The woman checked the time on her watch; she still has ten minutes to spare before she was considered late in showing up. It was a good thing she managed to get a parking slot not far from the restaurant the date was supposed to happen. The vampire had her raven hair up in her usual high ponytail, wore a white button-up collared shirt with last two buttons undone, black pants that hugged her toned legs and black high-heeled boots. She also has her dark grey thigh-length trench coat to protect herself from the cold, not that she felt the biting chill anyway.
Merrick let out a breath as she thought back on the last time she actually went out to see someone. It has been a long, long while since she dated another female, seeing that it was pointless to do these dates if in the end, she was going to lose the person to death anyway. It was not that she was expecting to fall in love right off the hook on this single date, but the bitter thought that she, an immortal, can never find a companion who will stay by her side for the rest of eternity was what gets her. The vampire had tried those one-night stands before, but at the end of the day, she was left emptier than how she already was from before.
However, this time, she cannot back down from this one. It was said in rumors that vampires were heartless creatures of the night, but Merrick was here to prove those gossip wrong. If she was indeed heartless, she would have decided not to show up, but here she was, carefully cradling a dozen fragrant flowers to meet her partner for this night. It would not hurt to at least try to enjoy the company of another person. What could go wrong?
Just when she felt that she can go through with the date smoothly, she suddenly felt nervous. What if this girl, Selene, got scared? Merrick does not know what other people think of vampires but in some circles, she and her kind have a negative impression because of their blood-sucking nature. The woman had consumed enough blood to sate her thirst until the next day, so she was in the clear. But will this assurance be enough for this unknown female? Only one way to find out…
The heels of her boots tapped against the pavement as she neared the restaurant, her exhaled breath wafting out from between her painted lips as she looked for her possible date. There were a lot of people coming in and out of the establishment but one stood out, a young woman in a white coat standing near the entrance. Once more, Merrick checked the time on her watch: five minutes before the agreed start of the date, she got there just in time, if this was indeed her companion for tonight.
Mustering up her courage, she carefully walked towards the female, the shaking of her hands hidden as she held the bouquet, until she was almost an arm’s reach away from the said young woman. Merrick’s molten gold oculars looked at the girl, her voice sounding smooth and gentle despite the Russian accent as she addressed the female in the white coat.

"Miss Selene?" A voice spoke, it sounded soft yet full of power. What a contradiction. The usagimimi almost jumped out of her skin, her head straightened making her twin tails bounce up. They were here. She turned, tentatively, to the voice her amethyst eyes gazing at them -- a woman with cascading raven hair and a warm grey coat -- her eyes golden, a glowing topaz. A woman. Ah...
When it came to the thought of others loving the same sex she didn't see it as a problem. Did she like girls though? Selene wasn't quite sure. The usagimimi never had someone to like or love, unless it was familial. Mother always wanted a nice, rich boy though, for her daughter. So it wasn't for the fact that her date was a woman, rather the thoughts of others lingered in Selene's mind. But Mother wasn't here. It didn't matter. Or so it shouldn't.
Merrick was pretty. There was something about her that read sharp, elusive yet beautiful. It made the blonde almost jealous. But she nodded, passive. "Yes, that's me. Selene Cœur. Pleasure to meet you, Miss Bartholomew." Her tone was formal and her eyes as poise as she could make them to be. She had years of practice anyways. "I hope I didn't have you wait for long. But I'm glad we have finally met." Formalities as usual, were key to good introductions. Her head held high, back straight -- her tall yet slim body almost made her look like a ballerina warming up for a dance. "I have... been a bit anxious for this. I haven't done this often, or at all, so please excuse me for any mistakes along our, erm, date." It felt uncomfortable saying that word. Date. Date. Ah! The bold phrase was certainly foreign. Though she noted that she had began to fumble with her words, her "um" and "erm" prominent in her mind. She kept repeating it, and cursed in her head at it.
But Selene kept her poise. Selene always had to, after all. "I hope to have a nice time with you. Shall we?" Her eyes lingered away to direct themselves at the restaurant, a hint. While she was all for hearing Merrick talk, the blonde wasn't sure if she'd have anything interested to say. The usagimimi wasn't an interest person, not in the slightest. But her date looked like an interesting person. She looked like she'd have a few tales. Plus it was good to get out of the cold anyways.

gotta stay high all my life to forget i'm missing you
Memories of her father and mother teaching her to interact with other people came to mind as the female she approached confirmed her identity as the one written on that small piece of paper she got inside her coat pocket. Her stance remained relaxed and a smile soon appeared on her lips, one that had always graced her features and one that was genuine. Merrick had been told that the best thing she can wear to any occasion was her smile, and despite her slight embarrassment at being told this, she does look more beautiful whenever her lips curl up into that expression. The female did heed the words of her parents until it became a habit and it came naturally as breathing.
Treating this moment like one of her meetings with a client, it gave the vampire a small confidence boost; she was more used to handling clients than dates. Ah, the very thought of it was still scaring her a little but she tried not to think too much about it or she might end up stuttering. Merrick nodded back at Selene and took in her features; she was tall (though still a bit shorter compared to the older woman), her hair that had the color of the sun, her healthy pink skin, her eyes that were akin to a pair of amethysts, her stylish clothes, the vampire managed to take a good look in one swift and discreet sweep of her eyes. Selene reminded her of bright sunny days that she never gets to see often because of her nocturnal nature.
"It's also a pleasure to meet you, Miss Cœur. Allow me to say that you look lovely tonight... and please, just call me Merrick."
She listened to Selene's words first, letting her speak and finish her statements. The blonde sounded so formal towards her but that was to be expected. The two of them were a pair of strangers who just met and surely anyone would be rattled at this first encounter. However, Merrick wanted to reassure her date that she had nothing to worry about. The smile she had on was still on her face as she lightly chuckled and said, "I believe that should be my line and I do hope I did not keep you waiting too long, so if ever I did, I hope you will forgive me." She momentarily paused to clear her throat softly as she went on, "We are in the same boat, actually. I have not done this in a very long time so I am a little nervous about this, but I do look forward to enjoying the night with you. Let's go inside."
Merrick guided Selene towards the entrance and they were immediately greeted by the restaurant receptionist, a tall man with stubby horns on his forehead dressed in a white collar shirt and black vest. "Good evening, ladies. Table for two?" The vampire was quick to hold out the invitation towards the man who quickly inspected it. The smile that formed on his expression was a clear indication that he knew about this arrangement. "Ah yes, we're expecting you both, Miss Bartholomew and Miss Cœur. Please, come right this way." He led the two women inside the restaurant which was filled with other customers; a number of people were dining in groups though a larger, considerable number were couples spending time together there as well. Maybe this restaurant was indeed made for this kind of thing.
The receptionist finally took them to their assigned table for two, one that was positioned near a window where a view of the restaurant's flower garden can be seen and quite conveniently so, their table also had a clear view of the string quartet that was playing music for the guests. Merrick's hold on the bouquet tightened a little as the man soon announced that he will be sending them a waiter as soon as possible and left them. The vampire swallowed once and carefully held out the chair for Selene to sit, and once she had settled on her seat, would gently push it near the table before moving to take her own place across the other female.
"Before I forget, these are for you."
The architect held the bouquet of white lilies towards Selene, offering it to her as a small gift. She was not sure whether the woman liked flowers, but the architect merely went with her gut to get some; call her old-fashioned but it was what she did long ago when she was still with someone, though she was not sure whether it was still tradition to do such a thing. It would not hurt to try.
