Vashti had woken up two hours before class started, finishing up her homework from the following night, making any corrections needed before pulling the rest of her homework out. She looked it over to make sure that she was satisfied with the information that she had placed on the paper before returning the papers to her backpack. She then grabbed her brush and started brushing out the notes that were in her hair. Since her hair was wavy it was easier for it to become curly and tangle. Once her hair was perfect, she got dressed and grabbed her watch before putting it on. The last thing to grab was her backpack as she walked out the dorm door. She took her time walking towards her first class, knowing that she was going to be early so there really wasn't any reason to rush. She stood outside the class room door, waiting for the teacher to come by and let her in. She made her way into the classroom, looking to see which spot would suit her for the morning before taking a seat. The teacher of course had moved to take a seat as his desk, trying to ignore the student in the classroom, the girl was known to do pranks and he was growing tired of being picked as her target.
Vashti sat in the middle row, two seats to the right but was still in the center of the room. Class had yet to start but she found herself here early, having nothing better to do. On her desk she had a deck of cards, playing solitaire. She flipped the next card, checking her rows to see if she could place it on top or move some cards over before flipping another card from the deck. This went on another few minutes before students started filing into the class room. Some students found themselves staring at her but she ignored them as she continued playing her card game. The school bell rang, she ran her hands across the cards, pulling them into a pile before slipping them into her backpack to deal with later. Sitting up straight, she prepared herself for what the teacher would say this time, it was the normal topic, always going over the assignment before they had homework to return in the next couple of days. This day was different though, the teacher had mentioned something about a project and how they would need partners if they were going to complete it. Nobody would want to be my partner, I still hope that he allows us to choose our own.
Vashti listened as the teacher finished talking about the project before he started assigning people into groups. It was always two as a pair. She sighed still hoping that they would have an odd number, meaning that she would likely be able to avoid getting a partner after all. She looked at her watch, checking to see what time it was. Debating on if now would be the perfect time for her to slip out of the room, unnoticed. The teacher finished calling out names and found himself standing in front of Vashti, looking at her as he looked at the clip board in his hand. Vashti found herself just grinning at him as she prepared to stand up from her spot, thinking she would get to avoid having a partner for this project after all. The teacher then mentioned that Vashti would in fact have a lab partner, before calling out the name of a student that she wasn't completely familiar with. Well at least he was handsome She had to remind herself not to have such thoughts.

at time he almost felt like a butler. though he wasn't required to get hachi up. when it came to cooking ezra didn't mind. he enjoyed to cook. his mother had taught him well. though hachi would remind him when it wasn't up to his mothers standards. hachi loved ezra's mothers cooking. he knew he would never be at her level but he didn't have to rub it in. he thought with the shake of his head.
he left the kid behind and knew if he really needed him he would call. ezra ate his egg sandwich and walked to class. eating and walking wasn't the best, but he had woken up later than usual. he didn't have time to sit down and have a meal. last thing he needed was to eat in front of the class.
he turned down a corridor and cursed. he had forgotten his class had been switched. why of all days it had to be today. he picked up his pace, now that he didn't have the sandwich to deal with. he popped a couple of mints into his mouth and continued his walk. i better not be late. he thought to himself as he finally reached the classroom.
the class was filled with students but the teacher was no where to be seen. he sighed and made his way to an empty seat next to the window. it just so happened to be near the middle row. he usually sat in the back, but that seat had already been taken. ezra took out his notebook and folder. he frowned once the teacher arrived and started off class with a stupid project. he hated working with others. the only one that he seemed to work well with was hachi. either he got stuck with a bossy person who wouldn't let him help or he got stuck with the slacker. he looked over. the teacher was standing in the middle of the aisle. it seemed his partner was across from him."what? im stuck with you."he should kept his mouth shut. this girl seemed to cause the teacher trouble. while most were here to learn she was here to distract the teacher.
Ezra had made his comment and Vashti just grinned over at him, safe by the window if she so chose to advance towards him. "Oh come on teach, somebody can have a third person. No need to assign him to me just because you thought I'd be perfect for the role." She answered, tired of being in the classroom already. Ezra would be stuck as her partner no matter what and it was likely for the student to keep an eye on her instead of it benefiting the class for her to be assigned to anybody. "Or he wouldn't mind working on the project alone." She finished, not one to go down without a fight. She wasn't going to hear the teacher deny her request just because it was impossible to let her do the assignment alone. She stood up from her desk, grabbing her backpack and rushed out of the classroom. The teacher looked at Ezra before quickly adding, "Your her partner, if you give her the news and start on the project, I'll give you less homework." The teacher wasn't playing favorite here, anybody who got stuck with Vashti as a partner got less homework because in the long run she was the homework.
Vashti made her way down the hall, having half a mind to shift so that she wouldn't be noticed by any staff members that might walk down the hall by chance. I can't believe I got assigned a partner, not that I mind Ezra, I just don't do partners.... I'm not a team player.... I will do this assignment alone if it is the last thing I do. She leaned against the wall before sliding carefully down the wall, as to avoid her skirt going up because she wanted to remain modest. Once she was on the floor, she crossed her legs and pulled out her cards to play another game of solitaire. She honestly expected the teacher for once to allow her to do the assignment by herself, but she wasn't expecting the teacher to bribe Ezra so that he would come out of the classroom to tell her the good news. "Your not stuck with me... I proved that by leaving the classroom." She answered, it was a comment that was long over due. "So why are you here?"
ezra ran his fingers through his hair. he was utterly surprised by the news. why didn't the teacher just let them pick whoever they wanted. so then someone else would get stuck with her. she looked like she wouldn't do any work. its probably why she always had to cause an interruption. he rolled his eyes at her comment.
he was completely speechless. he was fuming but he couldn't think of what to say. who the hell did this girl think she was. how dare she refuse to work with him. he stood up way to fast. knocking his chair over. she had run off and the teacher still said they were stuck together. he gathered his things and shoved them in his bag. why was he so angry?
oh of course. the girl just embarrassed him in front of the whole class."fine.whatever. email me the assignment."he said before glaring off into the distance. he wasn't going to run after her. oh no, he was going to walk out nice and slow. he slung his bag over his shoulder and walked out.
where did she go. this was ridiculous. now he had to find her. he sniffed the air. a hint of perfume still lingered in the air. he chose to follow it. he only hoped it lead him to that annoying pest. it wasn't long before he spotted her. well it was more she spotted him."because we have an assignment to do."he told her as he folded his arms.

Vashti brushed her hand on the top of her cards as she piled them together before once more shoving them back into the backpack. "No, you have an assignment and I have one. Not we." She would refuse this partnership even though he was still handsome and a pleasure to look at. She didn't put her cards away for the benefit of paying attention to him, she did it so that she didn't risk her cards getting damaged, not that he would but you could never be to careful. "So I suppose this is the part where you plan to correct me and get me to join you on this assignment." She started, coming to realize she didn't let the teacher finish before finding out what exactly the assignment was. Crap.... now I have to go back and ask him... She thought to herself, feeling slightly annoyed. It wasn't like she had a cell phone or access to a computer, well the school had computers but it wasn't the same thing. She wasn't familiar with technology, choosing instead to focus on her magic skills instead. "Did you even get the assignment for us?" She asked, as if it was his fault for her not having it now.
She was trying to encourage him to back out, that was her only reason for acting that way around him. Everybody else was easy to ignore but him, not so much, purely because she lacked the desire to do so. "Tell me Ezra, did you come on your own free will, or did you get guilt tripped into doing it? I have reason to believe you are all for caring about your grade to come after little old me." She wasn't sure if she liked this attention but it was still better than having none at all. She shifted onto her knees, pressing a hand against the wall as she stood up, still taking care in making sure her skirt remained down. "Your words were, you were stuck with me. I honestly don't believe you to be the type to have a change of heart." She finished, picking up her backpack and slugging it over her shoulder she added, "I'm never a over hard worker or slacker, you got selected the wrong partner for this assignment, I suggest you go back to the teacher and encourage him to assign you to another person or two. As I said, I work alone." She didn't do partner assignments, working together with somebody else wasn't her style.
ezra rubbed his temples. it seemed like this girl was going to be more difficult than he thought. why couldn't he be back in his old class. he didn't understand why he had to be moved. just because he had already taken that class. he would of taken it again, but no they wanted to take something else. something that was available.
he stayed quiet as she made good points. what was he going to do beg for her to work with him. she probably didn't even know what he was going to get out of all this. was he really going to go through the trouble. he smirked."oh, now its us. a minute ago you were perfectly fine working by yourself."he turned to walk away."yes, i had him email the assignment to me."he felt a little victourious.
"i'd be more than willing to pass it on to you, but you seem like an idependent kind of girl. you don't need my help at all."he said as he started to walk away. screw it, he'd do that extra homework if he had to. he wasn't about to beg her."of course i care about my grades. that's why im out here."he said as he turned to face her.
he stared at her emotionless as she threw his words at him. yes he was a little harsh. she couldn't be as bad as the rumors lead people to believe. he wasn't the type to follow gossip, but it might of seemed like they were right about her."less homework for me. that's what the condition was. i could careless."he shrugged his shoulders."i don't. the sooner we do this the sooner we can leave each other alone."it seemed like he was going to lose this battle."whatever. do what you want. im not going to beg you."
Vashti kept a straight face, trying to keep from smiling even though she was enjoying this moment of giving him a hard time. But then he ruined it by smirking at her, commenting and then turning his back on her. Big mistake, she reached out to grab his wallet just before he started walking away from her. She stood there, unsure of how she might get the email since she wasn't good with technology. That attitude, he didn't care at all that he was going to get stuck working with her and yet, he was proving it by walking away and leaving his wallet behind. "Last I checked, your getting a bad grade if you don't do this assignment with your partner!" She called after him, hiding his wallet behind her back, she held her wrist with her free hand as she stood looking at him. "You had him emailing the assignment over to you?" She asked, once it was her turn to talk. "Why would you have him do that.... are you expecting to print me a hard copy?" That was right, she wasn't going to have him email the information over to her, nor was she going to sit around allowing him to believe the partnership would happen.
"Oh is that all? So in other words, if I give you a hard time about this. I can drag out how long you are stuck with me." She smiled over at him. It was going to be a long few days, if they wanted to do the assignment correctly. "Hey Ezra. I think your missing something." She kept her hands behind her back, still clinging to his wallet, trying to get some form of reaction out of him. At first she thought working with him on a project would be a bad thing, but this was going to be so much fun. Him trying to get her to work with him and her giving him a hard time about it. Of course she would do her own work as well, but sharing the information and taking from him wasn't going to happen. She watched him, trying to decide on what she should do next, seeing as she had other classes to go to and he would too, they would need to set time after class to meet up and start on this project. Most would ask her for her number so that they wouldn't get stuck having to hunt her down later, but seeing as she had no cell phone, Ezra would have to find out her last class or hunt her down if he expected her to help him with it.
"Alright, lets say I do chose to do the assignment with you. How do you plan on meeting up? I warn you, I have no cell phone, so that it out and I rarely use the computers, so email is out as well." She paused, Plus I don't know how to use those. "I could give you my list of classes or just the last one... but having you try and find out where the hell I went sounds a bit more fun." Besides, I don't even know if I'll stay in all of my classes. The tree outside sounds like a nice spot to take a nap right about now. It was still morning, she had plenty of other classes that she needed to attend if she wanted to keep her grades up but the nap still sounded to good to be true. "Well?" She repeated her question, expecting him to answer as if she had been kept waiting for to long even though it really hadn't been.
take a breath. he found himself saying over and over in his head. this girl sure knew how to push his buttons. was she always this obnoxious with everyone."last time i checked you said you didn't care. so don't worry about my grades. focus on yours."he said with a frown. he remained in his spot. he hadn't moved as she continued talking."because i unlike you came prepared. i ask for my assignment before running off like an idiot."he said a smile on his face. it was the best he could do. he wanted to laugh, but this was not the time or the place. he figured it would only feed her ego even more.
"i honestly don't care what you do. its not my problem. remember you said we're not working together. fine by me."he said as he crossed his arms. one bad grade wasn't going to completely ruin him. if anything he could turn in the whole project himself. of course he would only include his name on the work. he wasn't about to let her get a free pass.
he frowned once again."listen, i don't have time to play games with you. find someone else."honestly how old was she twelve. he shook his head. she had horrible manners. who raised her? the circus? he arched an eyebrow when she said he was missing something. he slowly checked his pockets. he didn't want to panic and have her grinning from ear to ear. he glared at her."apart from being an obnoxious, spoiled brat, you're also a thief. that's wonderful. hand it over."he said as he walked closer to her.
"how about you give me my wallet and you can forget about this stupid project."his hand still stretched out."i'd rather work with a monkey before i work with you."
Vashti shook her head at him, "My grades are fine, the teachers are just mad because I do things my way instead of theirs." She stated as a matter of a fact. "Well unlike you, I can always sneak into another class and find out what the assignment was but it was easier to get you to just tell me it." She brushed off the fact that he called her an idiot. It wasn't the first time somebody called her that and it wouldn't be the last, though coming from him, hit a sore spot. So much for thinking he is attractive. This is war! "If you say so Ezra." She answered him back, he didn't want to know where to meet up, she could always do the project later and try and get his signature later. He wasn't giving up on her finding somebody else, "I would, but the teacher made the choice, not me." She answered finally, "So I've changed my mind and decided to be nice to the teacher and work with somebody for once. Seeing as you aren't interested it's all the more reason for me to try and encourage you to change your mind. Don't rush though, this is fun." She answered, liking the fact that she was annoying him.
She found herself smirking when he had checked his pockets and came to realize that she had stolen his wallet. His glare was priceless. "I don't know about obnoxious, but I'll come back to that one in the moment, spoiled brat... boy you don't understand how wrong you are about that one, thief... Yes. I suppose that one does fit me perfectly." She finished, he had demanded that she give it back to him. Ezra had moved closer to her and she held the wallet tightly in her grip, refusing to let him having it, going as far as to take a step back instead. She was about to change the deal when he said that he'd rather work with a monkey instead of her, since she could shift, the comment had hit her hard and instead of answering him, she took another step back instead. "Then go work with the monkey, lets see the monkey get your wallet back." She answered, her attitude changing from happy to angry. Now that things were settled, straightened herself as to appear taller. "If you want your wallet back, you will work on this project with me." And I'll be getting you back for all those comments.
"So I think I'll hold onto this until you meet me after school." She finished, trying to decide on what he might find worthy to hold onto. Unless he planned to grab it out of her grip, she had no reason to rush into giving it back to him. She moved her hands in front of her so that he could in fact see that she had his wallet before making it disappear down her sleeve. Oh the benefit of becoming a magician. She looked at her wrist watch to see what time it was before smiling, he would have only a few minutes to decide before class was over and the next one would start. "Well, do you want your wallet back or not?" She asked, that mischievous grin appearing on her face when she honestly believed that she had him trapped in her web.
this wasn't what he had in mind when he had woken up this morning. he thought he was going to have a nice boring lecture. he'd meet up with hachi and have lunch and just go on with his day before walking home with hachi. it was suppose to be another boring, uneventful day. he should of stayed in bed. he sighed softly."why do you have to call attention to yourself. everyone's tired of your stupid tricks."he told her bluntly."some of us actually came here to learn."he told her with a frown.
he laughed."you being nice? since when."he didn't understand her change of heart."i highly doubt that."he sighed once more. at least her got her to agree. he didn't even have to beg. he had turned the tables on her. now it was her demanding his attention. unfortunately he knew there would be some sort of obstacle. she just had to take his wallet. she was so quick and nimble. he was usually quick to react when he felt something touch him, but he didn't feel a thing.
he let his emotions get the better of him. he needed to calm down. though at the moment all he wanted to do was go home and punch something. a work out was do him good. he look at her clearly not amused and shook his head."im pretty sure i can come up with more adjectives that would fit you perfectly, but i don't have time."he said stepping closer to her when she took a step back.
the last thing he needed was to chase her down. he really had no desire to play this cat and mouse game. he rolled his eyes."you are the monkey...no i guess not, you're more of a rat."it seemed like she wasn't laughing anymore. he had a couple of things in there that he wanted to keep. he had his arms crossed. tired of all this nonsense he found himself agreeing.
"fine, but give me my wallet."he looked at her a small smirk on his face. she was good, maybe she wasn't an idiot afterall. most would of given it back and waited for the person to be honest and show up. ezra would of told her the deal was off as soon as he got back what was his."fine. where do you want to meet?"he knew better than to try to take it from her. she wasn't too far away from him, but if she wanted to she could probably make a run for it.
Vashti shrugged her shoulders when he made his comment, "I can see that." To bad for you, I won't let you know that I care but only sometimes. The subjects continued on and she found herself enjoying it somewhat. "Well, be sure to speak up when you come up with them..." Of course right this second would be out of the question, but they were going to be partners for this project so he would have plenty of time to come up with more if he was interested in such a thing. "If you do that though, I might get the wrong idea and accuse you of taking an interest in me." She said with a smile, trying to annoy him on purpose. She noticed him taking a step closer to her and she once more took a step back, as to keep her distance from him. It wasn't fear, well not the fear of being harmed by him, she just wasn't used to having a boy so close to her, one that she sort of liked.
He called her a monkey and then a rat. She looked away, choosing to not correct his comment at this time. I'm a mouse... rat's aren't cute.... He was determined to get his wallet back but she just wasn't going to give in. "No." She answered, choosing to give him a plain answer. He didn't scare her, not in the way he was thinking anyway. "Seeing as you care about class and I'm no longer in the mood. I'll be outside." She answered, not telling him flat out that she'd be in a tree. "So just come on outside when your done with school and I'll give it back." She answered, deciding that for once she would in fact do just that. Oh my gosh, I'm so tired.... She thought to herself, looking over at him as she waited for him to agree to her terms. It wouldn't matter much though, because the school bell rang, meaning it was time to leave their current class and head to the next one.
"I'll likely be in a tree." She gave a heads up warning, turning she left him in the hallway, making her way outside. I need some air... it's only our first class and I already feel pressured being nearby him. Climbing the tree proved to be difficult when she was trying to keep her skirt from going up, but she managed to get on the tree branch, fixing her position so that she could use her skirt to hide herself, before crossing her legs and falling asleep. She woke up after a few hours, looking at her watch to see the time. Her stomach hurt, she wanted food but she hadn't brought any to eat. There was a crowd of boys under the tree looking up at her, she was confused until she remembered that she was wearing a skirt. By god.... they are perverts.... Her thoughts changed over to Ezra. Where is he, when I need him?
ezra stayed quiet while she continued her rant. sure he wasn't being the nicest person right now, but she wasn't either. he rolled his eyes now and again. especially when she mentioned him taking interest in her. he covered up a laugh."yeah, keep dreaming princess."he couldn't stand working with her. he was sure the only feelings he would develop would be those of annoyance. though he wasn't going to admit to her that she was pretty cute.
he looked at her in confusion. go outside to find her? didn't she have other classes to attend. then again she did leave in the middle of this one. who was he to assume she would be found in a classroom."right i'll be sure to look for a rat in a tree."he said with a chuckle. he watched her leave and he sighed. he had agreed to work with her and she had taken his wallet. the teacher owed him big time for this. he thought as he started to his next class.
he had met up with hachi for lunch. he doodled in his notebook before hearing the last bell. time to go home. he collected his things and headed towards his locker. he didn't need half the books in his bag. he exited the classroom making his way towards his locker. glancing outside as he walked past the windows. it seemed like a nice day to fo to the beach or just laze around. movement of branches caught his attention. he moved closer to the window and stared at the tree before getting a good look. is someone in a tree? he asked himself.
he shook his head and considered leaving them alone. if they got up on the tree alone then they were more than capable of getting down. yet he stayed there. he opened the windows. a branch grew close to this window. he could almost touch it."what are you doing?"he called out to the person hidden by the trees many leaves.
Speak of the devil, the window had opened and she could hear somebody asking her a question. It was Ezra of all people. "Showing off." She answered sarcastically, as she moved her legs over the edge of the branch before grabbing the branch as she hopped off. They are all a bunch of perverts.... by god this is embarrassing... "Shoo...." She didn't like having this sort of attention, this was why this school sucked, the girls got stuck wearing skirts well the boys had the freedom of wearing pants. She was pulled from her thoughts when some of the boys that she had told to go, happened to be still nearby, to close for comfort. "Oh you know you really want us nearby." One of them answered as he advanced towards her. She could handle the attention when pissing somebody off, but this affection was nerve wreaking. What is worse is that she didn't get lunch, so her mind was somewhat on food when she was trying to figure out how she could get out of this mess. "Get away from me." Once more she backed up, on accident trapping herself against the building and the tree she had jumped from earlier.
Shit... She knew that she could try and shift into a mouse, but that meant leaving all of her stuff behind, including Ezra's wallet. Nobody was going to get their hands on that except him, assuming he came and collected. It was happening to quickly, the three boys were hovering in front of her and she found herself cowering in front of them. One of them had the nerve to reach his hand out to touch her face, she closed her eyes, trying to picture them gone. It wasn't helping, she knew they were still there and she was in big trouble. All because she had fallen asleep in a tree and they were perverts. "Don't be scared... It will be fun..." The words had escaped between his lips and she flinched when she felt a hand grabbing her chin to her to look at them. I don't want this.... I don't want this.... Somebody save me.... Save me please.... She had to do something, she couldn't let them stand so close to her. She lifted her knee, kneeing the closet boy in the gut, making him stumble away from her.
Catching the other two off guard, for a brief second. She moved forward, trying to slipped by them when somebody grabbed her hair and threw her back against the school building. "Bitch, now your really in for it!" The boy who got kneed in the gut pushed his friend out of the way to get a grip on her himself. "Let me go..." She struggled, but the boy was just to strong for her. At this rate, she was going to lose. Vashti might have been a pain in the ass, but she was still a girl, one that didn't want this type of treatment. She felt broken, crying, praying that they would change their mind and let her free.
ezra simply shook his head."didn't peg you as the perverted type. thanks for proving me wrong."he said with a soft chuckle. he watched as she collected herself and made her way down the tree. he hadn't spotted the group of boys that had gathered around the tree. were they friends of hers?
as far as he knew she didn't have friends. honestly he didn't know. he for sure knew she didn't have any in the class they shared. otherwise she wouldn't of caused such a ruckus over project partners. he sighed and shook his head. why did he have to end up with the weird ones. he was about to continue his walk to his locker when he remembered she still had his wallet. he looked around below. he spotted her talking to the trio.
he couldn't hear what they were saying, but by the looks of it she didn't seem comfortable. he knew that mouth of hers was going to get her in trouble. he was puzzled more than ever. he watched as the guy got a knee to his gut. what the hell was going on."hey!"he shouted from his spot. they didn't appear to hear him. while this wasn't his problem, he wasn't going to stand around while someone got picked on. he hoped he didn't miss. at least he didn't have anything breakable in his bag pack. they had come closer to the building and ezra dropped his heavy backpack. hoping it would distract them or hit one of them.
his next move was to jump out the window and hopefully grab a tree branch. the tree was fairly close. jumping to the window sill. he shook his head. why the hell was he doing this. well it didn't go according to plan. he missed the branch and his sweater had gotten caught on a branch. he should of just shifted and made the jump easier. he wasn't normally this spontaneous.
he managed to slip out of his sweater and down to a near by branch. there he managed to finish catch the scene play out. she tried to make an escape and they had practically dragged her back by her hair."what the hell are you doing?" he shouted from the spot he was currently watching from. he wasn't too far from the ground. he lowered himself down so he was holding onto the branch. he let go and dropped to the ground."let her go. now."he said glaring at the trio.
Vashti found herself grinning at Ezra's comment, at least something good had come out of him being nearby. A backpack had come from up above, but nobody seemed to notice it, nor did they notice Ezra climbing out the window. Focused completely on the girl who had tried getting away from them. The three noticed Ezra when he shouted from behind them. "It's none of your business...." The one holding her answered back. Vashti was surprised to see that Ezra was here helping her out, but was also glad it was him helping her out too. It was to late to try and hide any unwanted tears from her eyes, still being pinned by the boy, feeling the grip getting tighter. His friends didn't seem interested in picking a fight with Ezra, but the one holding her seemed all for it. "Why don't you go mind your own business?" He asked, not in the mood to deal with Ezra or the fact he chose to play hero against him. Vashti struggled under his grip again. "Let me go." Ezra... Please... Save... Me.... She looked at Ezra, pleading with him, hoping he'd help her instead of turning his back on her even though she knew that she deserved it.
The boys friends still weren't interested in picking a fight with Ezra, but since he was interested in picking a fight with Ezra, they chose to join instead of leaving their buddy behind. The grip on her loosened before she was no longer behind held anymore.
