They had a pretty close bond and were very close friends. That way until one day when Ulrich was with the boy one day. He hadn't had any blood for a while and his blood lust was ravenous. It ended up kicking in on him while they were playing. Causing him to attack his friend. Not only biting him but injuring him pretty badly. He had never had a rage attack due to hunger before. It had suddenly happened and could have costed the boy his life had he been any worse with him. Feeling horrible and thinking he was hated Ulrich cut all ties with the boy. It's something Ulrich has had to life with and still does to this day and thinks about it a lot. Every time he knows he needs blood now that's what he's reminded of and gets very angry. Six years had passed and now his old friend is in Hawaii and they bump into each other somewhere. Both now having to face each other after that fateful day. A rather bittersweet reunion but only to realize how much they missed each other. Wanting to catch up and leave the past where it belongs.
