personality
Merrick is quite the optimistic person, she does not let troubles or problems get to her and dampen her mood; this woman often sees the silver lining in every raincloud. Immortality has given her a lot of opportunities to learn things and this has made her quite curious with anything that is new and is open-minded to new ideas. People say she has a strong personality which is backed up with her confidence. Merrick knows who she is and what she is capable of, but she is humble about it in public and allows her actions and results do the talking. She also likes to think outside of the box, often exploring the possibilities that could be better than the old ways. Merrick is an intelligent woman and likes to challenge the status quo, knowing that there will always be room for improvement. She has learned to be understanding and patient after centuries of being alive.
There will always come a time when she just loses it. When pushed too far, Merrick will still try to keep her cool although she will turn sarcastic and her tone will start to change. She will become blunt, almost too painfully straight to the point if she becomes real mad and inanimate objects will get the brunt of her anger, resorting to slamming her fist hard on the desk and even throwing things at the wall. If this woman becomes so fed up, she will surely walk out storming and slam the door in anyone’s face to avoid harming anyone.
While she may exude proud air, she is still secretive about her own life and keeps her vulnerable side hidden from the eyes of others. While she desires close company, she keeps herself distant from those she knows, keeping them at arm’s length, knowing how fragile life can be for others who are not like her. Merrick can become emotional and will often try to hide this behind her mask though when it just becomes too hard to bear, she will lock herself behind closed doors and silently weep. In a way, she does not wish to burden others with her own problems, thinking that they already have a lot to handle on top of hers. With this thinking, she often puts others before herself which can result in her forgetting about her own good.
history
When you are an immortal and have a lot of time in your hands, you tend to forget some of the past details, the memories fading so they can be replaced by new ones. I can’t even remember much about my infancy, all I know is that I am the first born child of two vampires: John David Bartholomew, a noble English vampire, and Serafina Morozov, a Russian vampire countess. My parents met during one cold night in Russia; my father was on a trip for he was always been in love with traveling around and seeing the world. They clicked almost immediately and they became close companions. Eventually, my father could not bear to leave Russia, for he had fallen in love with my mother. They became a couple, got married; it wasn’t long before my mother soon announced that she was pregnant with his child. My father was ecstatic but it was a short-lived celebration. A protest had started in the country condemning supernaturals and the humans were killing them off one by one. Afraid for their own safety, he and his wife fled Russia and sailed to Britain where they continued their lives together and had me. Father said that we mostly kept to ourselves while we accumulate vast amounts of wealth with his businesses with fellow vampires, other supernaturals and a number of trustworthy humans.
While things may look peaceful now, my parents have always been there to guide and raise me well to prepare me for the future. I received high quality education and even combat training (said to be necessary, according to mother), taking every lesson quickly like how water is to a sponge. Perhaps I had a knack for learning new things along the way. Once I had matured both in appearance and age, I had tried to mingle more with other people. As a creature of the night, my interactions were limited, often restricted to mostly vampires and a few other creatures. I did not expect to get along well with a werewolf, a creature that was said to be the so-called rival of the vampires, but please, humans tend to over exaggerate stories sometimes.
She was older than I was, though I could not tell since she was probably the most beautiful person I have set my eyes upon. You’re probably going to say it, so yes, I will admit it; I fell in love with her and I was happy that she felt the same. We became lovers and my parents were more than supportive of our relationship, even her pack was fine with it. For the first time, I did not feel all alone. But I knew it was too good to be true; life is too fragile and eventually, she was taken away from me. My lover got killed in a skirmish between her pack and their rivals. I tried to help in healing her with my blood, but I was too late. I wept for hours by her death bed, grieving for my lost love.
The years went by like a blur; I eventually moved on and had repeated the cycle of losing my lovers to death until I just grew numb. I went to study a number of disciplines, music, arts and even architecture, to keep my mind off the sad thought. By this time, my father had created a construction firm for his newest line of business (he often drops the old-fashioned ones to make new, modern ones) and I, now an architect, am one of his trusted executives. His firm became well-known and was chosen to become one of the major contractors in an urban planning project in Hawaii. Knowing that I can pretty much handle the responsibility and represent him across the seas, I flew in to lead our team with the construction of the town called Kinau in O’ahu.
Hawaii was an interesting place and I have decided to stay here for good, telling my parents that I will be setting up a branch of our firm here, in case there were still other building opportunities and maintenance work to be done. To entertain myself, I enrolled at the local Academy, posing as a college student in hopes of learning a few more things along the way, times are changing after all.
While I seem to have everything under my belt, I couldn’t help but feel lonely every now and then. I may be an immortal, but I know something is missing; I know what it is, but I’m just… scared that I might lose it eventually. Maybe it’s just better this way… or is it?
