The sound of the click. Slow, deliberate. There was a woman on a bench, chatting with... someone. It was intimate, her voice hushed, her neck reddening at whatever they were saying. [break][break] Then there was that little boy, looking much too young for a cell phone though he rode by on his skateboard, almost yelling into the receiver at the poor soul on the other end. He looked like he was no more than nine, dressed in a striped t-shirt and blue jean shorts. [break][break] Finally, the teenagers, texting away, side-by-side but miles apart as they allowed themselves to be absorbed in their screens. It was sad- and he should know. His own relationship with his family had been reduced to that, or the occasional Skype video call. [break][break] The last picture he took, kneeling there in the grass, his camera raised to his face, his black-and-yellow hair bright in the sun, was a slow shot of a businessman. He, too, looked absorbed in his conversation: this clearly wasn't a work call. He paced back and forth, chatting to... a girlfriend, possibly? Wife? Mistress? Hachi wasn't sure. The first image appeared on his display for a moment: blurred, but definitely the businessman. He took another shot, this one with a fast shutter speed, capturing the man midstep. And then another: the man having just set his foot down, standing tall, ready to take another step, though the image looked like he was standing completely still. [break][break] What was it about this business man? The good looks? The curious expressions? Hachi wasn't sure, he just knew he wanted more pictures of him.
Zachary had found himself staring at his phone, it had taken guts to make the phone call and here he was, pacing as he spoke on the phone. Everybody else surrounding him got completely ignored as he was focused only on Basile. They would rotate turns talking, or sometimes Zachary would find himself quiet. He hadn't noticed the guy taking a photo of him. He turned, focused on his call until he noticed the guy with the camera. It took a lot of effort to ignore him and continue pacing.
Hopefully Basile wouldn't notice that he became distracted. Another photo, he couldn't just put the phone on mute and handle this could he? No he could not. Thankfully, Basile had something he needed to do so they ended the phone call. He stopped pacing, looking at his phone for a moment before placing it in his pocket. He was completely focused on the guy taking his photo, trying to figure out the best approach to handling it.
He had stopped pacing, glancing towards the guy just as his photo was taken. I knew it, this time I caught him in the act. He took his time coming over, still figuring out the words he wished to use. Slowly making his way towards Hachiko he stopped just in front of him. "I would ask you to not take any more of my photos and if possible to delete the ones you have. I'm not a fan of having my picture taken." He spoke politely.

Delete the pictures? Never. There were few things he would certainly not be told to do, and deleting photographs was at the top of that list. Anticipating conflict, Hachi pressed the release on his camera's memory card slot before discreetly removing the small memory card, slipping it into his black slack's pocket. [break][break] "Sorry, businessman. Public place." Hachi replied matter-of-factly. "I can send them to whoever you were talking to, though. You seemed very absorbed in it. Was it your girlfriend? I'm sure they'll appreciate seeing how happy they made you. Did you notice she was making you happy? You could see it in your expression." Hachi's head tilted, his hands dug into his pockets now as his expensive dslr camera hung around his neck. [break][break] "And a phone call- not a text to talk to her. Admirable." Hachi added, smiling at the businessman. "Don't worry, okay? They're flattering pictures, I assure you. I'm very good at what I do. I'm not a blogger, or a journalist, either- just a hobbyist." [break][break] This was definitely why he needed Ezra, but the bodyguard was no where in sight. In fact, Hachi wasn't really sure where the other male was. He was sure Ezra'd tried texting him, but Hachi'd been so absorbed that he hadn't noticed, and, well, he wasn't going to check now. He had to keep his attention on Zach, just in case the blond had a bit of fight in him. But, he looked too dignified for that, didn't he?
Hachiko must have believed him to be forceful, since he removed the memory card from.the camera to hide it in his pocket instead. Zachary gave Hachiko a blank expression, he wasn't wrong but it was considered impolite to take one photo without permission. Hachiko seemed to be egging him, but he wasn't going to play his little game. "Actually, you can't." He corrected as a matter of a fact, "Because you don't know who I was talking to, nor will you find out." I don't think I want Basile seeing those photos.
Trying to flatter him, wasn't going to encourage him to give up however. "It doesn't matter if you are or aren't. I'm not a fan of having my picture taken." He confessed, grateful he hadn't been near something scary when Hachiko got his photo. "Just means if you don't delete it, I have yet another person to aviod. I can't allow you to get anymore than you already got, now can I?" He finished, deciding those photos can be like a autograph, since he wouldn't get them back and all.
"Be warned, if those photos do get in the wrong hands. I won't go down without swigging, so I suggest you keep them over making them public." He refused to risk being possibly blackmailed, not that Hachiko would, but he wanted him to know. "And please stop calling me business man. Zachary or Zac will do just fine." He added, waiting to hear what the cameraman would call himself.

“Oh- a secret affair.” Hachi gave a nod, as if he understood completely what Zachary was getting at when he said Hachi didn’t know who he was talking to. It made complete sense to him, even though he was wrong. “She must be very pretty, businessman.” [break][break] “An attractive man like you?” Hachi may have been teasing with that comment, but it was true: Zachary Blaine was an attractive person. “I don’t plan on asking to get another photo, but my intent isn’t to keep you hiding- what will your pretty mystery caller think?” Hachi didn’t have the time to stalk someone, and he really didn’t want to. He didn’t know who Zachary was, and he didn’t want to know- this moment was just that, a moment, that would be replaced by another moment- there was no need to hold onto it, or replicate it willingly. [break][break] “I’d rather you not threaten me, Zachary,” Hachi’s expression was still amused, his hand lifting from his hoody, going behind his head to ruffle his dark hair. “My father wouldn’t approve, and my body guard doesn’t take kindly to threats, either.” Not that he was really scared- he just felt it necessary to set his own boundaries. With that established, he tilted his head, curious now. Wasn’t it customary for him to shake his hand? Hachi had met plenty of businessmen, and they all shook hands. Was that some kind of sign of disrespect? Well, nothing he could do about it. [break][break] “I'm Hachi Reizei,” Hachi introduced himself. Maybe he’d been drawn to Zach because his own father was a successful businessman- it was possible that by giving his name, Zach may have even known of his father. Honestly, Hachi almost hoped he did, as if the two men knowing each other would somehow bring him a little bit closer to his father.
Zachary lost his straight face when Hachiko accused him of a secret affair. It seemed he was looking for reactions though, it took a lot of effort to refrain from making a comment. "My relationship doesn't concern you." He stated, refusing to give anymore comments on the subject. The last thing Basile needed was extra attention, he was in high school, he would have his time to shine as soon as he graduated and became an actor. He is attractive, yes. He corrected in his head, making a correction would only give him more details, it wasn't going to happen.
Zachary rolled his eyes, it was hard to stay calm when Hachiko kept teasing him. He found himself surprised when Hachiko turned his comnent right back in his face. "Threat?" He wasn't a violent man, he just wasn't a push over either. "That isn't what I meant, oh nevermind." He didn't need to cause a useless fight over some photos. "I guess if the public gets them, I'll have you to thank." He was annoyed but wasn't about to do somrthing stupid.
He found himself a bit sore, but Hachiko gave his name and he brightened up slightly. Oh really? He knew of Mr. Reizei, planned on avioding tension with that family at all costs. It was a trust his father had established between the two, he wasn't going to lose it. It was late but he offered his hand out to Hachiko anyway. "I apologise for my behavor Hachi." He meant the handshake, he wasn't off the hook for taking his photo however.
"And for the record, I doubt you'd run me into a hole. It isn't the end of the world if one has their photo or photos out there. I have a job to do after all." He wanted to see future employees, he couldn't do that if he went into hiding. He better not get me with Basile though, Basile doesn't need me in his photo when he gets attention. "I'm not going to even ask why you have my photos... Perhaps your a fan of mine?" He was joking of course. It was about time Hachiko had some of his own medicine.

“Oh, but I think it does. I like seeing that- that happy look of yours. Not just yours, I mean- I’m not a creep, I’m a photographer. I like people’s expressions, and you happen to be a person.” Hachi explained. Zach had him pegged. He liked to see different expressions when he taunted people, when he was nice to them, when they cared about something, and even when they were sad. He loved to capture those moments. It was a pity he was here now, with Zach, his camera effectively out of commission without it’s memory card. He figured he could put it back in- what was Zach really going to do?- but Hachi decided to wait a bit longer before testing Zach. [break][break] “You would thank me, yes! They’re quite beautiful, I assure you.” Hachi’s expression morphed from amusement to pride: even if Zach wasn’t serious, Hachi took pride in his photography, and he was going to take it as a compliment while he could. Hachi loved talking about his photography, and he loved praise even more. [break][break] That was it- that look. The look of recognition. His father’s name did go far. His business interests were diverse, but in terms of the Japanese economy and the U.S. relations, the Reizei name did get people’s attention. He took Zach’s hand with the hand that had been in his pocket, dropping the other hand from his head so he could stand properly and shake Zach’s hand formally: clearly this wasn’t the first time he’d shook a man’s hand. To the apology he figured he should have said it was okay, but the boy remained mum. He doubted Zach was really sorry, it felt like something he had to say. [break][break] “Oh- no. Of course not.” Hachi agreed with him. “Really- Zachary- that isn’t my intention.” Hachi repeated, though he doubted he could truly assure Zach that he meant him no harm. To prove he meant him no harm, he was pretty sure he’d have to delete the photos,a nd he wasn’t doing that. [break][break] “I’m not a fan, Zachary. Father keeps work very separate from me.” Hachi admitted. If he was being completely honest, he still didn’t know who Zachary was besides a man in a suit who- if he knew his father- apparently really was a businessman. “But I am a fan of your expressions. You know, when you think no one’s watching, you’re quite handsome.”
Zachary shook his head slightly, aruging with Hachiko was proving to be pointless. "Well, you keep telling yourself that, photograper or not, you won't be getting that information from me." He was firm on his decision, anything Hachiko got on the suject would be on accident at this present time. Zachary held a fake smile, either Hachiko took him seriously or waa messing with him. He wasn't about to make it appear as if Hachiko was wrong. Zachary was glad Hachiko took his hand even though he was late to give it.
Yes he figured the guy had money on him, but Mr. Reizei's son hadn't crossed his mind. Hachiko made his comment and Zachary found himself in deep thought. His last chance was to make another comnent, mostly to see Hachiko's reaction. It had backfired on him however. "I bet you are." He answered back politely. "Well that is ashame, turns out you'll only get those photos if you don't plan on following me around for more." He was clearly joking with him at this point.
The comment of being handsome hadn't been ignored, it was taking a lot of effort to not reaction to it. "Anyways, it was a pleasure meeting you Hachi." He answered, being friendly. He was doing this to see if Hachiko really held no interest in him other than his photos. "I should have said my full name, Zachary Blaine. Ceo at my father's company." He added, planning on making a visit to his father, letting him know Hachiko was in town. His father always had good tips for him.

Perhaps the mistress/lady of interest line of joking was wearing thin. It was time to try a new tact, so, the young photographer let Zachary’s comment go: he wasn’t actually trying to pry, he’d just thought it was funny. [break][break] “You are a funny one, Zachary.” Hachiko grinned at Zach’s joke. Perhaps it was mean of Zach: sure, Hachi got to keep the pictures, but at the cost of all other potential pictures he could take? Well, there was very little Hachi could do about it, so there was no use arguing. [break][break] “Ah- Blaine, right.” Hachi nodded. “How is your father doing?” C.E.O. personalities were often ambitious, charismatic, and generally A-type personalities- it was safe to assume that if the man was still living, he probably wasn’t leisurely relaxing while his legacy was carried on by his son. [break][break] Hachi was quite sure the business was well and prosperous, and even if it wasn’t, he would have lied and said his father had told him the business was well, prosperous, and had potential. But… despite dropping his father’s name, the teenager had next-to-no idea what business relations his father had. Perhaps a few in Japan, sure- ones where the C.E.O. was Hachi’s “uncle”- a friend of the family, more than just a business interest. [break][break] But… Hachi’s father wasn’t exactly on the right side. Hachi’d picked that up long ago when the businesmen his father angered sent people after him to scare his father, using him as leverage. Perhaps if his father had been more honest, he wouldn’t be in Hawaii now, instead of Japan.
Zachary was grateful when the subject of Basile had been dropped. Hachiko said he was a funny one, he couldn't help but think that if he wasn't careful that Hachiko might get more photos in the near future if he wasn't paying attention. Hachiko asked how his father was doing, once more it seemed the subject got more personal, but he chose to answer it anyway. "As good as he'll get. If hd gets healthy, I'll likely lose my spot as Ceo, unfortunately, I don't see it happening." He honestly believed his father was dying, the doctors were trying but he kept getting sicker instead of getting better. "It just means, I'll have to work even harder if I want the company to surpass what my father put into it." He planned on working hard till the very end, or die trying.
"How about yours?" He asked finally, deep down he didn't expect Hachiko to answer or at least not truthfully. Unless you were friends with that person, if trouble was around the corner, you'd lie to make yourself look good. Zachary just wasn't one of those people. A thought crossed his mind, "Perhaps if we get a friendship, I'll tell you about the one on the phone." And he brought Basile back into the topic. It wasn't like he gave names or a gender, he just figured since Hachiko seemed so interested in knowing before. "You won't see any photos over unless I think they look good. Can't you at the very least text them to me? Since you hid the memory card in your pocket?"

"You're too young to be a C.E.O.- if that did happen, which, hopefully it does- you'll get your time to take over again." Hachi promised. He couldn't imagine losing his own father- he missed the man terribly as it was, and he was still relatively healthy. [break][break] "You're a determined one, aren't you? I'm sure you can meet or exceed your goals. After all, times are changing. In this day and age, there are so many opportunities!" Ever the optimist, Hachi's words were sincere, his enthusiasm geniune. [break][break] "Well- you know how stress gets to them. All those long hours, and sometimes not the best choice in food. He's definitely got to watch his blood pressure, but he's very healthy otherwise." Hachi stated impassively: nothing to hide, though he didn't want to provide any sort of "bad press" about his father. Zach would understand, right? There was no harm in telling Zach because Zach knew how bad it was when the media latched onto a story like that. Investors would get cold feet. Employees would worry. Productivity would go down... Nope- Zach wouldn't possibly tell. [break][break] "Oh- the mystery woman! She made you so happy," Hachi smiled, amused by the offer by Zach that he'd share that information. "I'm sure she's lovely." [break][break] "You know! If you ever want to hire a photographer for your marketing department, I'd promise not to take pictures of you then. You can even have my memory card if you let me work for you." Hachi took a chance, pulling the card out of his pocket to offer it to Zach. "I'll get class credit- it can be an unpaid internship, I don't mind."
"I'm only twenty-two, graduting high school at sixteen and jumping into college before graduating there too. I am in fact a Ceo though." Zachary answered before smiling at Hachiko. "I don't know what'd I'd do with my freedom, but I hope he gets well." He finished, not wishing to lose his father from death. Hachiko than answered Zachary's question, telling him what appeared to be truth. The honestly had caught Zachary off guard. Changing the subject to bring Basile back on topic, Zachary grinned when once more Hachiko mentioned a lady. "I think you mean he." Zachary corrected, with a grin on his face he added, "Yes talking to him did make me happy." He answered, unsure on what more to say he chose to remain quiet, giving Hachiko time to react if he wanted.
The subject once more changed and Zachary perked up, "Is that a promise?" He asked, but he spoke in a teasing tone. Zachary watched Hachiko pull the memory card out of his pocket, "I'd rather pay you, but you have to keep the menory card." Zachary changed his mind, thinking it might be fun if Hachiko had pictures of him. "Just means you want my autograph." Clearly joking again, but seriously, Hachiko should keep the photos, Zachary was just embarrassed earlier because he had been unprepared. "Maybe if I'm not busy, I can watch you take pictures." Assuming you don't find it creepy. It was rare that he wasn't found working but Hachiko didn't need to know that.

"That is quite impressive!" Hachi stated, speaking sincerely. He wasn't through high school yet. At times it felt like he never would be- he had to study often, and even when he studied, he wasn't so sure he was going to pass. To imagine doing it two years sooner! Clearly Zachary was a very smart man. [break][break] "Oh, a gentleman caller?" Hachi smiled. Knowing they shared the same sexuality- or, really, both had an interest in guys- made Hachi feel a lot more comfortable, and maybe even a little hopeful? Zachary was an incredibly attractive man. [break][break] "So you'll let me take photographs for your business?" Hachi drew both hands to his chest, bouncing a bit in his spot. It was that easy? "I'll be the best photographer! I won't let you down." [break][break] "Yes- please! Come take pictures with me!" Hachi agreed. "It gets a bit lonely- I would love your company!" The idea excited him. Of course he wanted Zachary to see all the pretty things he got pictures of! Sunsets, bugs, animals, people- anything he saw could be fascinating and tell a story. There was no reason not to take someone with him. And of course there was the chance that he'd get to know Zachary better.
Zachary was glad that Hachiko believed him, normally he had to make more of an effort, but Hachiko believing him just like that felt good. Hachiko asking if a gentleman had been on the phone, made him feel more brave then nervous, at first when it had been mentioned he had felt slightly nervous but became braver when talking to Hachiko. Hachiko asked is Zachary would let him take photos of his business, nodding his head for yes. Seeing Hachiko happy, made him even happier. It meant it would see Hachiko more often now.
I believe you, truth be told I don't think I'd be to upset if you did however. I now have an excuse to see you more often. He suggested well hinted at the idea of wanting to go with him when he was taking photos. Hachiko agreed, he wasn't sure how much happiness he could take in one day, only one way to find out though. "Before we go back to my office to fill out some documents, would you like to join me for lunch?" He was asking Hachiko on a date.

"Lunch, with you?" Hachi didn't mean to sound so excited, but he definitely was. He slipped the memory card back into his pocket, finally. It wasn't that he couldn't pay for lunch himself- that wasn't it at all. Just, the idea that he was getting to know the man who had previously caught his attention and warranted having his picture took... To think his photograph subject wanted to spend time with him was just so glorious! The day couldn't get any better. [break][break] "Where are we going? Is it your favorite place? Is the food beautiful? I've got my camera." Hachiko smiled, as if this were the perfect time to have dinner, as if not having his camera would have been a deal breaker (though, it wouldn't have been). Even so, the idea of having lunch with Zach was very enticing. [break][break] "Oh... I walked here." Hachi admitted shyly. "So... if it's very far, would it be okay if you drove? Sorry. If it's too much trouble, you don't have to! I know you've probably got better things to do than to drive me about." He definitely felt bad now. As suddenly as he'd gotten excited, he felt like he was asking too much of Zach- he really should have brought his car. Truth be told, the teen rarely drove it- he preferred walking about, getting all the pictures he could. Who knew what you'd miss while driving past? Now, being the passenger in the car he didn't mind as much, though with Ezra he was often coaching the boy to slow down or stop for him to snap pictures.
